Commando 10th Anniversary: A Weekend of Courage and Camaraderie

Hever Castle | 11–12 October 2025
On the 11th and 12th October, recruits were once again put through their paces at our legendary Commando Obstacle Mud Run at Hever Castle, Kent — marking the 10th Anniversary Edition of this one-of-a-kind event. For a decade, Commando has stood alone as the only obstacle course that truly recreates the mud, sweat, and camaraderie of Royal Marines Commando training.
A Decade of Courage, Determination and Unity
The 10th Anniversary edition delivered another unforgettable weekend of grit, teamwork, and triumph. Hundreds of participants took on the challenge, cheered on by family, friends, and colleagues. From the first wave, the roar of our Royal Marine Commando Instructors set the tone — this was no ordinary OCR.
Families, sports teams, and individuals threw themselves into the challenge with boundless enthusiasm. The mud was epic, the beastings relentless, and the smiles unstoppable.
Into the Breach
From the moment recruits arrived, they were immersed in the world of Commando. Each received a dark-green 10th Anniversary t-shirt — a badge of honour earned through courage and determination.
They soon met powerhouse instructors Bart and Dougie, the legendary duo behind “the best OCR warm-up ever.” Their high-energy, military-precision drills fired up recruits and drew cheers from the crowd.
The event village buzzed with life — live music, hearty food, the mess-tent bar, and family viewing zones created a festival atmosphere that made Commando an experience for everyone.
Mission Begins
After the gruelling warm-up, recruits were transported across Hever Castle’s lake by landing craft — a nod to historic Royal Marines amphibious operations. Onboard, Chief Commando Brian Adcock delivered his signature O-group briefing, rallying the troops for the mission ahead.
Disembarking, recruits plunged into Estuarine Immersion — an icy initiation that shocked the senses and set the tone for the rest of the course. From there, the 3k and 6k routes split, each packed with unique challenges.
Classic obstacles like Sheep Dip, Swing for Your Life, and Doom Drop once again proved crowd favourites, while the brand-new Running the Gauntlet — a narrow beam over water under attack — was a massive hit.
The 12k recruits faced the toughest test yet: 52 obstacles including tunnel crawls, rope swings, and freezing water plunges. Some carried an extra 21lb of kit and a wooden rifle — a true test of strength, grit, and endurance worthy of the Commando name.
The Final Push
The towering 12ft wall marked the final obstacle — and the ultimate test of courage. Exhausted but determined, recruits summoned every ounce of energy to conquer it before sprinting across the finish line to roaring cheers.
Awaiting them: a Commando dog tag, warm showers, heated changing tents, and the sweet taste of victory. Mud-soaked, aching, and exhilarated — they’d conquered the 10th Anniversary course and earned their place in Commando history.
A huge shout-out goes to everyone who took on the course in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK, turning mud and mission into meaningful impact.
Ten Years Strong — and Counting
For ten incredible years, Commando has challenged thousands to test their limits, embrace the mud, and discover the true meaning of Courage, Determination, and Unity.
